Every year, Dutch design students take up the challenge of creating a winning design for HEMA. HEMA wants to make peoples lives easier and more fun. This is evident in all the products HEMA sells in over 600 stores across Europe: products essential for daily life that are exceptionally simple.

‘Cooking and dining’ was the theme of the HEMA Design Competition 2014. Out of over 370 entries my design 'De Klikspaan' won the second prize judged by the jury.

'De Klikspaan' offers a solution to a problem that everyone encounters while cooking: where do you place your spatula while cooking? 'De Klikspaan' is a frying pan that features a handle where a spatula can be clicked into place easily. Taking out the spatula is really easy as well because of an internal slope in the handle.

'De Klikspaan' was shown at the HEMA exhibition in OBA Amsterdam (29 August - 2 November 2014). Also, the model was picked to be part of the Twents Design exhibition 2014 in Wilminktheater Enschede (28 October - 20 November 2014).
